Smithtown is a town on the north shore of Long Island's Suffolk County.

It's a great place to live, shop, raise kids and do business.

First settled around 1665, legend has it that settler Richard Smith saved a Native American Chief's daughter from kidnappers. The Chief offered Smith all of the land Smith could encircle in one day - while riding on a bull. Richard Smith rode that bull on the longest day of the year, and true to his word, the chief gave smith all of the land that has since been named for Smith - Smithtown NY.

A statue of that bull still stands at the corner of Jericho Tpk and St Johnland rd., or rt 25 and 25A.

Smithtown encompasses the Villages of Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue, Village of the Branch, as well as parts of the Hamlets of Commack, Fort Salonga, Hauppauge, Kings Park, Lake Ronkonkoma, Nesconset, Smithtown Hamlet and St. James, along with the communities of North Smithtown and San Remo.

Smithtown is home to several State parks, including the Caleb Smith State Park Preserve, a state parksouthwest of Smithtown village named for the great grandson of Richard Smith.

Sunken Meadow State Park features three miles of beaches on the Long Island Sound, a boardwalk three quarters of a mile long, 27 holes of golf with a driving range and putting green, six miles of hiking trails, and facilities for biking, horseback riding, watersports, and general recreation, as well as playgrounds, softball fields, and a soccer field.

Smithtown Central School District is home to eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, all on different campuses.

Notable Smithtown residents include:

Major league baseball players Craig Biggio, Frank Catalanotto and Eddie Yost, the sportscaster, Bob Costas, noted author, Andrew Gross, John Hampson, the lead vocalist for Nine Days, actresses and sisters Emily Hart and Melissa Joan Hart, the NHL’s Christopher Higgins, Andrew Levy - Publicist and Co-host of Fox News' Red Eye, John Miceli - Drummer for Meat Loaf, Michael P. Picturesque Patchogue NY is part of the town of Brookhaven, along the Great South Bay on the south shore of Long Island, which is called Patchogue Bay in the waters just south of the village.

Just 60 miles east of Manhattan, Patchogue was incorporated in 1893, and is easily reached by car, via Montauk Highway, by Suffolk County Transit’s bus lines, Village of Patchogue Bus and the Long Island Railroad.  Walking distance from the train station is the Watch Hill Ferry Terminal, which serves Davis Park and Fire Island.

Patchogue is also accessible by air via Long Island’s MacArthur and Republic airports, as well as Kennedy and La Guardia airports in Queens.

Pathogue’s pretty riverfront and harbor are and organic parts of the community’s identity, and have been enjoyed by residents and visitors alike for over a century.

Patchogue and the adjacent hamlet of Medford share a school district and library.

Schools comprise Primary, Middle and High Schools, as well as continuing education classes for adults. In 2010, the Patchogue-Medford Library was awarded the 2010 National Medal for Museum and Library Science for the library's work in bilingual programming.

Downtown Patchogue offers a bounty of shopping, browsing, dining and nightlife possibilities.

Whatever your age or interest, there’s always plenty to do in Patchogue.
